The Jerusalem International YMCA (JIY) is a non-profit organization established in 1878, “intended to and calculated to promote a better understanding of one another; in the city which is holy to all three faiths” (Lord Allenby, 1933).

Our mission is to foster and develop mutual respect and peaceful interaction between all Jerusalem communities. Consistent with the universal values of the YMCA, the JIY works through concrete, effective and value-based activities which help develop the spirit, mind and body. We aspire to serve as a model to the city and region.

The number of students in Jerusalem’s educational system is on the rise, however, employment rates and wages in Jerusalem are significantly lower than in the rest of the country. Formal education alone is not sufficient to prepare the youth of Jerusalem with the necessary skills to participate in today’s professional society.

Educational institutions focus on the accumulation of knowledge, whereas employers are seeking creative individuals with ability to think critically, solve problems, and work as a team. Research shows that creativity can be enhanced with training, and while extracurricular activities are offered in Jerusalem, they are inaccessible to the majority of children, as 55% live below the poverty line (Korach & Chosen, 2019).

The JIY Youth Center provides one place where youth from all backgrounds can develop every aspect of themselves. We believe in preparing children for the future, on a professional, social, and personal level.

We promote critical thinking capacities, develop the imagination, and foster leadership skills in the children and youth of Jerusalem. We aim to do this by offering families from all Jerusalem communities high-quality, yet affordable, activities for the spirit, mind, and body.

“Youth are our heritage, our present and our future. We were once youth, and we see ourselves as having the responsibility to educate the next generation today for the changes necessary in the world of tomorrow.”

--- Rana Fahoum, CEO of the JIY

With multicultural diversity comes openness and anticipation of alternative viewpoints, thus leading to respectful dialogue and innovative thinking. Whether working together, or side-by-side, the unique interactions at the JIY Youth Center nurture an environment that is conducive for a colorful and powerful future in Jerusalem.

We invite you to join us in preparing the youth of Jerusalem for the multiple facets of life, by providing girls and boys from all parts of the city with equal access to enriching activities and leadership opportunities.

With your support, we will upgrade the JIY Youth Center by turning it into a versatile modular space, that is harmonious, interactive and inviting for families of all Jerusalem populations. The enhanced center will serve multiple purposes for different needs, such as different teaching methods, social interaction between various populations, and volunteering schemes.

The Path for Peace aligns the garden walkway between the landmark building and the sports center in honor of our supporters from around the world who contribute to our shared mission. The children and youth of the JIY pass by here as they enter and leave our building and often play in the adjacent garden.

This is your opportunity to make an impact on the future generations of Jerusalem, by supporting the JIY Youth Center and inspiring our youth with a message of hope in our ever-growing Path for Peace. You may also dedicate a plaque to a loved one or leave a lasting memory for your next visit.
